YOUR LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS AN ANIMAL OWNER IN THE UK

Pet Owner Responsibilities

As a pet owner you have a moral obligation to look after your pet properly. You may not realise it but you also have a legal obligation to ensure the health and welfare of your pet. If you fail to look after your pet properly, or your pet becomes a nuisance to public safety or causes damage to other peoples property you could be liable in law and face severe penalties including fines or even imprisonment !

If you have bought, or otherwise acquired one of the following breeds of dog you have special responsibilities under the Dangerous Dogs Act :

Pit Bull Terrier

Japanese Tosa

Dogo Argentino

Fila Braziliero

If you have somehow acquired an exotic pet (such as a snake, spider or large cat) that is on the Dangerous Animals Register or you may already be in breach of the law !
